Wat is sexting?
Sexting is het delen of verspreiden van seksueel getinte foto’s of berichten via smartphones of andere mobiele media. De term is afgeleid van ‘seks’ en ‘texting’. Het is een vrij recent fenomeen, dat wereldwijd steeds meer aandacht krijgt.
Niet vergeten: er is niets mis met sexting. Volgens experts is het een normaal onderdeel van de seksuele ontwikkeling bij jongeren. Sexten sluit aan bij gezond experimenteergedrag, bij het ontdekken van hun eigen grenzen en wensen op het gebied van seksualiteit.
Hoe ouder, hoe groter de kans op sexten
Uit de laatste cijfers van het onderzoek door Apestaartjaren van 2018 blijkt dat slechts 12% van de bevraagde jongeren tussen 12 en 18 jaar de afgelopen twee maanden een seksueel getinte foto van zichzelf maakte en naar iemand verstuurde.
Hoe ouder jongeren worden, hoe groter de kans dat ze een sext versturen. Vooral jongeren uit de derde graad versturen seksueel getinte berichten. Onder de sexters is 36% volledig naakt. Een sext in ondergoed of bikini is bij meisjes het populairst. Bij jongens zijn het vooral sexts in bloot bovenlijf. Volledige naaktfoto’s versturen is bij jongens en meisjes even populair. Het is positief dat 63% van de sexters aangeeft onherkenbaar op de foto te staan.
Een kwart van de bevraagden gaf aan dat hun privacy na het versturen van de sext toch geschonden werd. Ongeveer 43% van de jongeren zag al eens een sext op de smartphone van een vriend.
Bezorgdheid
Als opvoeders en leraren zien we vooral de gevaren van sexting. We willen voorkomen dat jongeren zichzelf of anderen kwetsen of dat ze slachtoffer worden van online misbruik. Hoe ga je nu om met sexting? Hoe reageer je als er zich toch een incident voordoet op jouw school? Welk beleid stippelen jullie uit? Directeur Kristien Druyts getuigde er in 2017 over bij Klasse.
