Nettiquette is een samenvoeging van de woorden netwerk en etiquette. Netiquette omvat de richtlijnen en gedragsregels voor het gebruik van het internet en e-mail. Deze regels lijken vanzelfsprekend maar toch vergeten gebruikers vaak dat ze via het internet − net als in het echte leven − met mensen communiceren en niet met computers.
De nettiquette is niet verplicht. Het zijn richtlijnen om de communicatie tussen surfers op het internet vlot te laten verlopen. Het originele document vind je in het archief van RFC, als RFC 1855.
Enkele concrete richtlijnen:
- Gedraag je tegenover anderen zoals je zelf behandeld wil worden.
- Gebruik geen hoofdletters om iets te benadrukken. Online worden hoofdletters gebruikt om schreeuwen te verduidelijken.
- Schrijf per bericht over één onderwerp en formuleer het onderwerp kort en duidelijk. Verzend meerdere berichten als je meerdere onderwerpen wil bespreken die niets met elkaar te maken hebben.
- Wees voorzichtig met humor en sarcasme.
- Gebruik de computer niet om anderen te schaden of om te stelen.
- Bemoei je niet met de ruzies van anderen.
- Respecteer de privacy van anderen.
- Lees je berichtjes na op spelfouten.
Maak er werk van op school
Informeer je leerlingen. Leer ze bijvoorbeeld een zakelijke e-mail opstellen en beleefd online communiceren. Stel ook op schoolniveau duidelijke regels op.
